CHAOS AND ECCENTRIC OBJECT
BA Thesis, 2016
»I would like the work to be non-work. This means that it would find its way beyond my preconceptions … It is the unknown quantity from which and where I want to go. As a thing, an object, it accedes to its non-logical self. It is something, it is nothing.«
Eva Hesse
With its origin in painting, my BA thesis focused on extension of imagery. Questioning the labor of creation, absurdity and obsessive gesture. Through the analysis of chaos theory within physics, I have drawn a parallel to eccentric object movement in 1960-70, its sculpture topology and coincidence based process of artistic practice.
Repetition of identical gesture produces different results each time. With the origin of this notion, the series of work focused on understanding the value of fragmentation and unpredictability. Through the play of textures, materials and absence of color, paintings become objects; illogical assemblages of aimless labor.
